In the last issue of Art Collector World, our sister magazine, we talked about the lasting effect of the Cool School. Those artists made a large impact on art and the California Art Scene in the fifties and sixties. They continue to make waves. We decided to feature one of the most important players of the era, Larry Bell. His influence on the art world is far reaching. Using minimal glass structures and light, he changed the way we approach sculpture and the light of a room, combining these two elements hand and hand.
His work is the stuff of legends. The structures, sometimes large boxes and sometimes narrow and sleek. These sculptures are a study of light in a room. The reflection, the refraction and the space between. They serve as a guidance and understanding of form and function. And hey, they don't look so bad either. The aesthetic is clear and refined. This is why Larry Bell is one of the most important artists of this time.
The power and grace of Bell's sculptures speak volumes. Larry Bell continues to create art to this very day. He is only getting started changing the way we perceive light and the objects it comes in contact with.
