BAKERSFIELD MUSEUM OF ART
The Bakersfield Museum of Art "Photography in Mexico" delves into a century of photography in Mexico from the Mexican Revolution (1910-20) and combining it with contemporary considerations of the US/Mexico border region. The featured gallery showcases the tradition of photography in Mexico, from the illustrated press at midcentury to the documentary investigations of cultural traditions, indigenous peoples, and urban politics of the 1970s and ‘80s. The photographs are taken from SFMOMA’s photography collection because of the recent SFMOMA displacement as they prepare for an upgrade to their facilities. The exhibit was a major gift from Patrons Daniel Greenberg and Susan Steinhauser.
Another Exhibit "Face To Face" features the art work of 16 different artists who use paint, graphite, or conte crayon to convey the many characteristics of a person. Its focus is on the essence of a person gained from visual clues.
